I'm not the biggest Al Franken fan but I do indeed like his message and would vote for him to replace Norm Coleman in Minnesota. Give his announcement for Senate a look.

I see that the commercial media has already settled on their primary meme for Al Franken - that he's stupid. I just hope his celebrity gets him plenty of free airtime to demonstrate that he is an educated, well-informed, and thoughtful man. I think the as long as he gets plenty of airtime, he will demonstrate that easily to the electorate, and the fact that the media unfairly characterizes him will stick in Minnesotans craws.
Pretty sad if he is the only alternative. I don't think he would make a damn bit of difference.
Panda, individual Dems can be uninspiring, but the closer we get to a filibuster-proof majority, the stronger a Dem Senate would be as a body. It also gets us to a point where Joe Lieberman's vote no longer matters, and he could be given the heave-ho off committees.
I also suspect that Franken would be less corruptible than average by special interests, and he would be a reliable progressive-ish vote.
I agree with Op Panda. When I first started to read the blogs (June 06) I started listening to AAR and Franken's show was the main feature during the day. He is smart and I think his intentions are good. certainly without doubt he is an improvement over Norm Coleman who's vote agreed with the white house 94% of time during his tenure in the senate. I think Al can win and I think he will help give a little backbone to the now-slim majority.
