Another Horrific Consequence of Poor War Planning.

The situation a Walter Reed is personal for me. We are military and my husband works at a military hospital. As I write this he is at the Audie Murphy VA hospital here in San Antonio. He works 12- 15 hours a day, 5 days a week, with every other weekend on call. "On-call" in critical care means several calls a night and having to go into the hospital one out of five phone calls. It means going into the hospital at 7 AM Saturaday and Sunday mornings, then back on Monday with no time off. He routinely works 14 days without a day off. The doctors and medical staff at these military hospitals are overwhelmed with the number of casualties and the lack of resources and support for the job they have to do. I'm really glad congress has decided to get off their fat, lazy asses and "look into the situation at Walter Reed." HuffPo has commentary and the New York Times Story.

This is when one wishes for a military coup!

I really think it is time for a real revolution in America!

Sorry Hope that you are going through all this emotional turmoil.

You know what is SO TERRIBLY SAD? That this lingering war over my country has made me, who used to think of myself as pacifist, into an angry petty human who feels certain relief in the misery of the American soldier.

This is a huge confession and I want you to know that I AM NOT PROUD OF IT. Yet it is a very visceral pain that drives me to it. You know, I grew up in war, in revolution, in fear of my loved ones dying in front of a fire squad, or in the war. War makes us into criminals; takes our softness away, takes our shyness away; we become psychopaths, we loose connection to empathy. It's a survival mechanism. Makes me think of the Full Metal Jacket.

AND I HATE IT, that because of Bush and Cheney, and because I am having neightmares about the shadow of my running brother, little niece, mother on the wall that has not collapes after the nuclear explosion, I have become such a petty human that prays for the misery in America, to prevent the war abroad!

I am confessing to you hope. Because you are a soldier. and because I hope you will understand me.

Yet I will fight hard in my heart, to not let fear take away my humanity ... it is so hard ... so hard ...

I actually know how you feel Naj. I appreciate your honesty and the looming fear you must have in your heart is similar to mine. I understand your feelings; the feeling that one is being robbed of one's humanity. War is bad for so many reasons. The US Army is not what it once was. These men and woman have been broken. The US gov't has enlisted criminals and social misfits into the service in order to fill its depleted, over-extended ranks. You cannot ask people to return 3, 4 and 5 times into a war zone that is so fraught with abiguity of purpose. The servicepeople that joined in order to honor and defend their country, or to get the opportunity to go to college or pay for medical school, are being pushed beyond any reasonable expectations and their capabilities. They are told to do things no person should be asked to do. And they do it because they must, they made a commitment. There are several hundred active-duty military that petitioned congress calling this war illegal. The issue is so complex, nothing I could ever cover in a comment, but please know I understand and have compassion for you, myself and all people of conscience who are caught in the web of deceit and lies spun and perpetrated by gov'ts that really only care for themselves. I pray for the safety of your country as fervently as I pray for mine. It is good we keep talking about it to each other and others. It may be what saves us.

Thank you for your understanding Hope. My husband just pulled over with his laptop, to show me a sattelite picture of my father's house from google earth. This means I will not sleep again. I have got the bird-eyes view. I am scared of bombs; sirens .. "red alert" ... "red alert", "Aerial attack will take place" ...

I watched some more of Walter Reed apologies tonight. It really fascinates me how big a deal they make of some General's verbal apology! How about sueing them for HUGE monetary compensation? This scandal makes me think of the "Coming Home"

grmble ...

I cannot tell how much I despise the military brass. Most of them have no honor. They may have at one time, but they have their noses so far up somebodies ass they cannot see the light of day--or reality. Tonight, and every night until this cloud of war no longer casts a dark shadow on your country, I will hold you Father and his home and inhabitants in my prayers. I believe that the American people will not allow this to go forward. Most Americans recognize how deeply wrong and dangerous to the security of the entire world invading/bombing Iran is and how uttrly pointless/wasteful/evil.We must keep hope and faith in our hearts to stave away the creeping blackness of evil that tries to encroach on our spirits. Inshallah.
