Israel to Nuke Iran With US Approval-UPDATED

The Times of London reporting that Israel has a secret plan to bomb Iran if they receive the tacit approval of the US government to "intercede". With the installation of Admiral William Fallon as the new commander in the Middle East, and the Bush administration's "urge to surge", what could be more clear than BushCo plans an acceleration of war to which we have no comparison. Fred Kagan, the Bush advisor credited with planning the "New Way Forward" has written an article detailing his plans for Iraq. This administrations infamous, "stay the course" shows blatant disregard for the will of the American people to end our participation in this illegal, immoral war, and has become as euphonious as Cheney's rejoinder to Patrick Leahy, "Go fuck yourself".

This is not 1944. Global interdiction by the US in support of Israel in the midst of an ongoing war, one with the added compliment of a "culture war" component will make WWII look like a walk in the park. If you care about your country, your future, the future of the planet, write your congressperson and senator demanding "no joy" to the bombing of Iran.

Dear Fred Kagan,

You said:

Defeat will likely lead to regional conflict, humanitarian catastrophe, and increased global terrorism.

Oops, too late, the humanitarian catastrophe and increased global terrorism are already a fait accompli, and the regional conflict is already coming to a boil.

The strategy of relying on a political process to eliminate the insurgency has failed.

Um, thus far the strategy has been to rely on the US military to eliminate the insurgency, which has failed so spectacularly that it is indeed adding fuel to the fire. And you think more will help?

We must balance our focus on training Iraqi soldiers with a determined effort to secure the Iraqi population and contain the rising violence.

You guys have been continuously misdiagnosing the problem as "training Iraqi soldiers" quickly enough, when the problem all along has been the factionalism of the plenty of soldiers and police that have been trained. It's unlikely that the first loyalty of many, or any, of the trained Iraqis is to the central government.

Securing the population has never been the primary mission of the U.S. military effort in Iraq...

It hasn't? Why on god's green earth not? You're admitting to stunningly poor mission planning at the outset , but we all knew that. So big of you to own up.

The ground forces must accept longer tours for several years. National Guard units will have to accept increased deployments during this period.

Bush is already driving the troops insane and wrecking their families with the operational pace he is imposing on them already. Not to mention killing and maiming them.

Equipment shortages must be overcome by transferring equipment from non-deploying active-duty, National Guard, and reserve units to those about to deploy. Military industry must be mobilized to provide replacement equipment sets urgently.

Nice transfer of my tax dollars into the pockets of defense contractors. What happens if the US is presented with a true national security threat requiring a military response when virtually all of our personnel and material is pinned down in rotation to and from Iraq?

Responsibility and accountability for reconstruction must be assigned to established agencies.

Great job of that so far.

The president must issue a personal call for young Americans to volunteer to fight in the decisive conflict of this generation.

The president better veto minimum wage, then - keep 'em desperate. Even then, quotas are already slipping, and that will only get worse now that public sentiment has turned. And, sorry, Fred, but I don't see a Democratic Congress reinstating the draft for you.

All in all Fred, I'm afraid I have to give your little report an F minus, and suggest you find another line of work. Fairytale writing, perhaps.

Disrespectfully,
A. Citizen

You should send it Op. Use that pen name of yours, latex gloves and don't lick the stamp. I have a friend in Budapest that can mail it for you. *wink*

I honestly think escalation and general war can be averted. There are powerful forces in Washington who are opposed to further escalation. My hope is these forces will assert themselves shortly. Much depends on the media and the courage of the "insiders" who can block the madness. None of this has anything to do with what the American people think or don't think--policy is something that is worked out on the inside and all sides play very rough. Let's hope the less insane faction wins out.

I have read this article twice. Nowhere did I see anything to implicate the US in being involved in the planning with Isreal. I did read that Isreal is seeking US intervention with the aspect of Iran building nuclear weapons. This article only confirmed that Isreal is training and making plans for the possibility of Iran completing their nuclear weapons. If you want to be taken seriously, you should stick to the facts.

Where do you see I said, "the US involved in planning with Israel"? I have no doubt that they are but I didn't say so. What I said is precisely spelled out in my post title, "Israel to Nuke Iran With US Approval", and to quote from the article you said you read twice, "Israeli military commanders believe conventional strikes may no longer be enough to annihilate increasingly well-defended enrichment facilities. Several have been built beneath at least 70ft of concrete and rock. However, the nuclear-tipped bunker-busters would be used only if a conventional attack was ruled out and if the United States declined to intervene, senior sources said."(emphasis mine). Perhaps before you impune someone's integrity you should learn something about critical thinking.
