Molly Ivins 1944-2007

Molly passed today after her third battle with breast cancer. Others have and will put it more eloquently than I so I shall take my leave with this:Molly on fear: "Fear is the root of most evil. As Boots Cooper, age eight, said after a close encounter with a chicken snake: 'Some things will scare you so bad, you'll hurt yourself.' We cannot make ourselves more secure by making ourselves less free."

Godspeed Molly, your wisdom will be missed. Here is an early tribute from Molly's syndicate. And more from the New York Times and Thought Theater. Amy Goodman replays an interview with Molly from 2004 and finally Molly's last column. From Molly's January 11th column:
Raise hell. Think of something to make the ridiculous look ridiculous. Make our troops know we're for them and are trying to get them out of there. Hit the streets to protest Bush's proposed surge.

If you can, go to the peace march in Washington on Jan. 27. We need people in the streets, banging pots and pans and demanding, "Stop it, now!"
