A Case for Impeachment

Bill Moyers hosts Bruce Fein and John Nichols as they parse out the case against BushCo. Worth a listen.

The founding fathers expected an executive who tried to overreach and expected the executive would be hampered and curtailed by the legislative branch... They [Congress] have basically renounced — walked away from their responsibility to oversee and check. — Bruce Fein

On January 20th, 2009, if George Bush and Dick Cheney are not appropriately held to account this Administration will hand off a toolbox with more powers than any President has ever had, more powers than the founders could have imagined. And that box may be handed to Hillary Clinton or it may be handed to Mitt Romney or Barack Obama or someone else. But whoever gets it, one of the things we know about power is that people don't give away the tools. — John Nichols

I am heartbroken that all the obvious and reasoned paths are not taken by our representatives in Congress as presented this evening by Mr.Fein and Mr. Nichols to impeach Pres. Bush and vice-Pres. Cheney. What do I have to do to convince Speaker Pelosi - there will be more harm in not impeaching than she thinks would happen by going forward with what is constitutionally necessary to preserve our liberties.

Good post, Hope. I believe the reason Congress is not being agressive is that they feel they have the 2008 election sewed up. They will take the power and use this Administration as precedent. You make an excellent point; would you want Hillary Clinton wielding this kind of power?? Or anyone else, for that matter.

They're all a bunch of vile, venal, nefarious b*stards.

mari j...my heart breaks as yours does. With Pelosi as my representative, I feel doubly betrayed by the lack of spine, nay integrity displayed by the useless bunch in the 11o congress. Thanks for your comment.

Bro Tim...so nice to see you and as good as your adjectives are describing these criminals, they are too mild for my taste.

When I heard these words which are quoted in this post, I rushed back into the TV room to replay them. I expected a thunder and lightning back drop and was only slightly disappointed. 90% of Moyers audience, I am sure, saw the lightning and heard the thunder.
