Fact-Checking Palin's Fish Story

So much of what Sarah Palin said in her acceptance/ introduction to America speech, was either an outright lie (mostly about Obama) or half-truths filled in with greater lies yet the corporate-owned mainstream media just dictates back to the American people without any fact-checking or challenge.

Media Matters, the watchdogs of the Fourth Estate (no pitbulls with lipstick, mind you), have combed through her spoken text (written by someone else) and tell us what she really said.

1.Media reports Palin's opposition of "bridge to nowhere" but not her previous support for it
2.Palin opposes earmarks, but not her previous requests for them
3.Media promote Palin as "reformer," ignoring state ethics investigation
4.Ignoring numerous ties, media promote idea that Palin "took on" Sen. Stevens when he was her "mentor"
5.Media fail to challenge McCain camp talking point that Palin is "commander in chief' of the Alaska National Guard
6.Media falsely assert Palin supports benefits for same-sex partners of state employees
7.Media ignore McCain's previously stated "threshold" for his VP: "ready to step in on a moment's notice"
8.Media do not challenge McCain camp assertion that liberal blogs dictated timing of Palin pregnancy disclosure
This report merely scratched the surface on the truckload of bullshit the GOP is trying to dump on the American people.

McCain's Vet Support a Sham

First, sorry for my absence, I've been wicked busy at work and at home, not to mention this campaign season has begun to take it's toll. On to Grampy MCAncient's voting record on vets (and the troops).

Making Sense Of It All has a great piece on just how many lies McCain tells about his support for veterans and active duty troops.
When it comes to his voting record and him claiming to be supported by all veterans groups is obviously false. This would be obvious because even back in 2000 veterans groups have been the most critical of McCain’s voting record.
Frankly, McCain rest on his laurels as a veteran but has an 80% negative voting record, while Obama maintains an 80% positive voting record on veteran's issues and support. I have not heard ONE mention of it in the MSM. Fucking assholes.

Double Plus Good

In news today, a new phrase has been given us by BushCo: Aspirational Time Horizon This new-speak nonsense is Chimpy's sycophantic cohorts way of finally agreeing to a timeline for troop withdrawal from Iraq. Admittedly, I have doubleplusgood bellyfeel about what I hope is not just another good duckspeaker from Oceania, er, I mean the White House.
Interestingly enough, notice how "new-speak" is a frighteningly accurate commentary on what the MSM dishes out daily as 'news.'

Double Standards at the New York Times

Dave Lindorff's This Can't Be Happening! posts some truth about the Grey Lady:
The New York Times, which claims to draw a clear distinction between its news articles and its commentary articles, dropped any pretense of such a distinction in its minimalist "coverage" of yesterday's dramatic effort by Rep. Dennis Kucinich to force the House to consider the impeachment of Vice President Dick Cheney.

In a small 230-word piece on Kucinich's privilege motion, and the subsequent vote to send his H Res. 333, now called H. Res. 799, to the House Judiciary Committee, after it has been consigned to limbo for over 6 months by the House leadership, the Times succeeded in dissing both Kucinich and the notion of impeaching the vice president.

As the anonymous Times reporter wrote in the lead of this hit piece:

"It is hard to know which effort has longer odds, the bid by Representative Dennis J. Kucinich, Democrat of Ohio, to become president of the United State, or his bid to unseat Vice President Dick Cheney by impeaching him".

Gonzo, meet John Mitchell--Dubya, meet Nixon

In light of the discovery of Gonzo's bedside-burgling of John Ashcroft, and the president's own words in regard to the wiretapping of millions of Americans (without a warrant), Ive dug up a post from last year on the blog Empire Burlesque. This blogger, Chris Floyd, has compiled a brilliant article detailing the chimp-offenses during the time period this story had its first incarnation (which was ignored). I reprise it today (while the MSM continues to ignore it).

In 20004, on April 20th, Junior Bush stood in front of television cameras and apparently unawares of concept of videotape, (scroll down to 'wiretap') made this statement:
"Now, by the way, anytime you hear the government talking about wiretap, it requires--a wiretap requires a court-order. Nothing has changed, by the way. [ ]

It's important for our fellow citizens to understand when you think Patriot Act, Constitution guarantees are in place. When it comes to doing what is necessary to protect our fatherland homeland because we value the constitution."
In the words of the ACLU, "Why did we bother to debate the Patriot Act if Bush could make up his own rules about spying on U.S. citizens?" I would add, and then lie about it...

Truthdig's Marie Cocco brings us the USA-scandal-meets-Watergate and some of the implications.

The most shocking thing to me about this debacle in its entirety, is not the blatant corruption, or even the total disrespect for the law by these criminals, that is to be expected with this gang-that-couldn't-shoot-straight. What rouses my ire is the fluffing-over it gets from the mainstream media, which should really be called, to borrow from a great blog with real news, crooks and liars--corporate style. All I can say is let the impeachment games begin!!

Update 10:45 PM
: Still no mention of Comey's testimony on ABC or CBS, imagine that.

Helicopters hit by mortar rounds at U.S. base in Iraq

Why am I reading this in a small, local paper? Hmmm.
May 17, 2007 7:08 AM
